New Vans x Disney is landing in NZ next week

Posted on July 30, 2015

Disney Footwear and Apparel Collection by Vans, Winnie the Pooh Authentics. Images/Supplied. This afternoon I got sent a press release from Vans about the latest Vans x Disney collab product dropping in New Zealand next week. Usually this wouldn’t really be up my alley in terms of what I personally like to wear, but upon discovering the Winnie the Pooh Authentics I was sold. Winnie the Pooh is my favourite Disney Character (equal with Mickey Mouse). When I was a kid I had this VHS (I’m old) of either a Winnie the Pooh movie or a bunch of eps in a row that my parents had recorded for me – I can’t quite remember which – and it had this whole section of Heffalumps and…

Chelsea boots for big spenders.

Margaret Howell Cropped Chelsea Boot, £425. Image/

With fashion week coming up, the arrival of Spring/Summer collections, and my impending trip to New York, I have been thinking a lot about my wardrobe, what to donate, what to wear, what to pack, you know – frivolous ‘first world problems’ type shit. I got this email the other day from Margaret Howell. Well, when I say I got it from Margaret Howell I mean that I’m subscribed to their mailers, so I got one of those, and within it was a pair of chelsea boots.

I’ve always liked the idea of a chelsea boot. They’re practical, there’s no lacing or any of that nonsense, they’re classic, can be worn with a multitude of wardrobe items. The issue I have with most, is the shape. I don’t like them too pointy, I don’t like them too round. As someone with short legs, the height they go up your ankle is something I’m wary of. For a fussy person like me, there’s a lot to consider. The Margaret Howell pair look like they fit the bill. At £425, they’re not exactly a steal for most people (including me), but sometimes it’s nice to window shop online for things a little out of reach.

That big spiel leads us to here. A post on the best pairs of chelsea boots to buy, for people with disposable incomes.

Happy Friday readers.

I participated in the adidas ZX Flux director shoot

Posted on April 12, 2014

Kiana (62 Models) in my Twenty-seven Names coat and Adidas ZX Flux. Photos/Sacha Stejko.

About a week ago I got asked to ‘direct’ an Adidas-themed photo shoot as part of the new adidas limited edition ZX Flux range, that dropped this morning (at Loaded on High Street). Only four of us got asked to do it so I don’t know, does that make me special? Probably. #humble

So anyway, last Friday I showed up to this pretty fancy, very #tumblr apartment in Morningside and I had a model waiting for me (Kiana, 62 Models) along with a selection of clothes, a hair and make-up artist (Verity Griffith), a photographer (Sacha Stejko) and the ZX Flux collection. They let me loose and I had the free reign to style and direct the shoot however I wanted.

I pretty much just put Kiana in a white Adidas tee and some Glassons shorts, and then a pair of mens I Love Ugly jeans (I haven’t actually posted a picture of that look so I don’t know why I mentioned it…) and then I chucked on her the new Twenty-seven Names coat and beanie I was wearing. The actual shoes come in a woven pink and grey, and a green and black (amongst others) but classic me, I went with the plain black pair because I’m boring and bright multi-colours usually scare me. I got the make-up girl to give Kiana some winged eyeliner and I got her to chuck her hair on the inside of her coat because I’m a big fan of that, and that’s pretty much it in terms of ‘beauty’.

I had an hour to get it all done, and when I left they told me I would get a selection of the images in a couple of days and I could do whatever I wanted with them. I decided to post my three favourites, and here we are.

Things I’ve seen: at Laneway Auckland 2014.

Posted on February 4, 2014

So as you may have already heard, I went to St Jerome’s Laneway Festival last week. I was there for several reasons – fun (people hate it when I say this, but duh), music (although I do have to admit I only saw maybe 3-4 bands over 6.5 hour period I was there), friends, and to take some photos. (Some of which you may have already seen here.) I arrived around 3:00pm which I guess is kind of late, seeing as the doors opened at 12:00pm or whatever. I have to be honest, I was actually just sitting at home eating Proper crisps (have you tried those things? Best kettle chips ever.) and that classic Kiwi onion dip made out of Nestlé Reduced Cream…

Kathryn Wilson made a loafer and named it after me!

Posted on January 22, 2014

It’s not every day that New Zealand’s premier shoe designer designs a loafer and then names it after you. I was pretty surprised to be informed late Sunday evening that this was the case. Surprised, and excited. A Kathryn Wilson shoe! Named after me! (With correct spelling and everything!) It doesn’t get too much better than that. (I want to type one of those smiley faces made out of a colon and a parenthesis, but I feel like it isn’t appropriate for some reason. Just keep in mind that’s the expression I’m trying to convey.) The ‘Katherine’ loafer is part of Kathryn Wilson’s Winter 2014 collection, and comes in a myriad of colourways (below) – my favourite is the all navy (surprise, surprise). The…

Newsflash: these Dr Martens are the best.

Posted on November 21, 2013

I own one pair of Dr Martens. They’re the low, school shoe kind, the three eye standard 1461 black with yellow stitching. I’m not going to lie, they hurt like a bitch to wear for a good couple of months but they’ve finally broken in. They’re extremely hardy. They’re the first pair I’ve ever owned so if you’ve been a Doc wearer for years and you’re all, ‘this is old news’, bear with me. I think that I could wear them in the snow, they’re that hardy. Anyway, now that I’ve gone on and on about that pair, I have to steer you in a slightly different direction. You see, I think I have found the perfect Doc for me. I will never be…
