I went behind the scenes at Number One Shoes Winter boots shoot.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to come and check out the happenings behind the scenes at a Number One Shoes shoot. They were shooting their TVC and other press for the Winter boots which have just gone into store. Eager to see how things happen on a commercial shoot with an actual budget, I packed up my camera and my coat and went down on that cold and rainy day to do a little documentation.

Boy was it cold. I was not prepared to be standing outside for great lengths of time, trying to escape the rain. The models must’ve been freezing. Kelvin and Kelsey (both internationals at Clyne) were consummate professionals though – no complaints, no nothing – just get out there in their tiny outfits and do their thing until someone says they’ve got it. How they do this stuff for hours on end, I do not know. Anyway, I digress. Outside was the shoot location, inside was for giant wusses like me. Also, inside was where they kept the snacks (crackers, cheeses, lamingtons, donuts, lollies – a good spread for those wondering).

Here’s what I saw:

I am learning to run, week 4.

The new women's Nike Free 5.0 that I ran in yesterday.

How can it possibly be the end of week 4 already? I don’t want to be clichéd and say ‘time flies’ but time literally does fly. What the hell, man? I now have less than two weeks to go from a piddly 4.5km to 10km. Not cool man, not cool.

This week, like the previous ones, has had its ups and downs. It’s been a bit of a struggle. Firstly, getting back into it after falling off in Sydney wasn’t easy. Mondays 3km felt like the first 3km I ever did and I think running with other people works against me. There’s too much pressure, the crowding, the feeling of others in your general surroundings – it freaks me out. Secondly, the crappy weather has been in full force this week which is not conducive to high levels of motivation to get up and face said elements. Thirdly, the extreme tiredness I’ve been feeling hasn’t helped, but I had a blood test on Friday so we’ll see, maybe I have a legitimate excuse for being lazy.

WFW: All Legs Everything at Kathryn Wilson.

Kathryn Wilson put on a pretty great show on Thursday night in Wellington at a BMW showroom a bit out of the city. She even sent some of us cars and drivers to bring us there. VIP man! VIP! It was the best. She presented A/W 2013 (current season) so if there are any pairs you like from the pictures, you can get them in store now or at least very, very soon. As well as the catwalk show (which, as you can see from the pictures, featured a lot of leg), Kathryn did a little speech about how she got to where she is. She’s a great public speaker. I can get bored easily and I am a nervous as hell public speaker – I mean, I can barely talk to people one on one – so when someone can stand up and speak confidently and engage me, I’m very impressed.

In kind of related news, there was a girl in the front row opposite me who I thought could possibly be a model. If I wasn’t sitting across a catwalk with a show in progress at a BMW showroom in Wellington city, I would’ve tried to scout her. Instead I just took a creepy stalker photo. Girl in the picture, if that is you, I suggest you give a modelling agency a call.

New week, new things.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s not the start of a week. It’s not even close to the start of this week today, but things came up and I’ve been busy for the last two days so let’s just pretend it is.

  • The new Nike Flyknit Lunar 1+. I’ve got the Flyknit trainers in the black/white and they’re pretty much the most comfortable shoes I own. I haven’t tried these new ones with the Lunar sole, but I’ve been told they wear like a dream. Plus, they come in a hot pink which is you know, ‘hype’ or whatever. Personally, I’m not nearly cool enough or confident enough to wear hot pink sneakers right now (or maybe ever… So hard to say) but the black/grey or the blue pair might just be the ticket.

I’m off to Sydney to celebrate 30 years of the Nike Air Force 1.

Another day, another flight to Sydney – or so it seems… Kidding! It’s just this past week things have been a bit crazy. The life of a blogger, right? I know hundreds of you out there want to stab me right now, and it’s completely justified – I’m back over the Tasman today to attend a little Nike shindig, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Air Force 1, and to launch the new Lunar Force 1. As part of this celebration, Nike has teamed up with a few creatives (including everyone’s favourite fashion trio, Vanishing Elephant, and New Zealand photographer, Tom Gould (his video is above) to produce content around the Air Force 1. Pretty good yah?

I’ve been told tonight’s shindig in Waterloo is going to include a bit of a sneaker exhibition which I’m pretty excited to see. I’m at the airport right now. Usually I hate flying but right now I’m feeling pumped. High fives!

PS. Sup CRB.

Imaginary Retail Therapy.

Due to my unfortunate financial circumstances, I’ve not been shopping much lately*. I’ve hit a bit of a wall – not enough room in my closet, not enough money to prioritise buying new clothes – you know how it is. The thing is, it’s like the universe knows this and has decided to taunt me because of it. The amount of stuff I see online and emails I receive every day with things I need want is getting out of control. So I have decided to purge it all into a post.

(Unsurprisingly, the majority of this is menswear but in my humble opinion, those items would also be great for girls.)
