I am obsessed with Karen Walker’s 2012-2013 Resort Collections.

All Images/via karenwalker.com

For weeks I’ve had two tabs open in my browser at all times (that is, alongside the other 7 that are permanently open at all times – Gmail, Google reader etc – those are a given). One of those is Karen Walker’s 2012-2013 ‘Sea Monsters’ Resort Mainline collection, the other is Karen Walker’s 2012-2013 ‘Sea Monsters’ Resort Runaway collection. I’m obsessed with both. I look at them every day and I can honestly say I’d wear at least half of the pieces in reality – that’s not even in dreams – in reality. That’s pretty rare for me.

First of all, there’s a tonne of blue throughout both Resort collections, and I love blue. There’s a nod to ‘The Village’ collection from 2010 (which I loved) – white stripes and trims on the hems of navy skirts and dresses. There’s polka dots. And there’s Kelvin Konoplyosova modelling. Bloody Kelvin, she makes everything look so damn good.

Here are some of my favourites (basically everything) from the collections:

Hey I don't know you and this is crazy but I made this video – watch it, maybe?

If you’re good at the internet, you’ll know where I’m going already by reading the title of this post. If not, get with the programme! Long story short, a good few weeks back I saw the original parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s music video for her single, ‘Call Me Maybe’ (starring tween heart-throbs Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale) and I was immediately obsessed. Then and there I vowed to make a parody video of the parody video.

I promised myself I would remake the video as part of promotion for Isaac and my ‘Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts‘ tees back in February, but life got in the way and it didn’t get done in time. Nevertheless, a solid month later I did manage to truck on with the project and finally last Thursday night (and Friday night, and Saturday night) I (and a whole host of friends and models*) got together to create what I like to think is nothing short of a masterpiece.

I do realise there are a lot of people who won’t appreciate this at all, but screw them, it was ridiculously fun to make (aside from the 20 hours of editing using iMovie when I don’t know how to operate it). I mean, how often do you ever get to just let loose and act like a 15 year old girl and have it all documented? Exactly! Hardly ever. It was the best time I’ve had in a long time. So with all that in mind, I hope you enjoy.

Happy Easter Monday folks. We up in here.

Reasons why I am freaking out about going to Australian Fashion Week (otherwise known as MBFWA*).

Backstage at Alex Perry's Australian Fashion Week show last year. Last year when I had friends. Sad face.

  1. This year I am on my own. The last two years of attending the event, I’ve been accompanied by Isaac and others. Sure I spend most of the time blogging and not socialising, but sometimes it’s nice to have someone to walk to the shows with, or to egg you on when you want to approach someone famous but are too nervous too, or to have a 4:00pm-between-shows-late-lunch with. I know a couple of lovely girls (Nicole Warne, you are going to be well sick of me by the end of the week, just warning(ps. Congratulations on FELLT)), but as far as I know, no New Zealand media are going to be there for the duration of the week. So what does that mean? It means at the end of this month I’ll be winging my way to Sydney solo. Girl on a mission! … Who am I kidding? More like Nelly no mates. Sob!

Alert! You have 12 hours to order your Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts tee!

Ngahuia Williams - Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts.

Okay guys, you may have already heard but I thought I would remind you anyway: Today is your last opportunity to order a THUGGED OUT SINCE CUB SCOUTS tee shirt before we shut it all down, so if you want one and you haven’t done anything about it - DO SO NOW! We’ll keep the online store open until midnight tonight and process all the orders tomorrow, so no joke – you have to order by midnight or you miss out.

Thanks to everybody who has ordered one so far, and sorry about the wait. I promise it will be worth it. For those who ordered in the first lot – we know you exist and they’ll be with you shortly I promise!

The Katherine is Awesome Guide to Shop One Night (which goes down tonight).

David Dallas: Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts.

First and foremost, you’ve heard it before and you’re going to hear it a-bloody-gain: Me and Isaac have re-released our Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts tees in two new colourways (maroon on grey marle and blue on navy marle) and three sizes (men’s small, medium and large). They’re going to be available from 5pm (NZT) tonight, and this is how it’s going to go down:

  1. You can buy your shirts online only for NZ$65 a pop, here. For international orders or larger sizes, email me directly.
  2. If you purchase between 5pm and Midnight on Thursday the 23rd Feb, we’ll throw in free shipping within New Zealand.
  3. HOLLA.

Secondly, for the days your Thugged Out tee is in the wash or when you can’t get it to match your outfit you’re going to need to be wearing something else – I recommend Barkers’ latest range of basic crew tees from the Winter 2012 collection (especially the Maroon marle – below. It’s fresh as). They’re 100% cotton, the fit is great and the tees come in 7 colourways. Best of all, if you purchase one (or more!) between 5pm and Midnight tonight, you can get them for NZ$20 each (as opposed to NZ$29.99) with free shipping!:

For all the other Shop One Night deals (which obviously you will only take advantage of after you have taken advantage of the above), see here.

I’ll be on the live stream on the Shop One Night site to remind you of these deals, as well as on twitter and facebook and all those other social media sites that people like, so log on, do some shopping and maybe even have a chat with me? See you (online) tonight!

There are some great looking Converse wearers out there.

Stephen Richardson in his Converse Jack Purcells.

In case you hadn’t heard, I’ve been hitting the streets this past week, snapping people in Converse sneakers. It’s been pretty successful so far, most people have been receptive to having their picture taken by a stranger – especially when there are free Chucks and tickets to the Fashion Festival involved – but there’ve also been a few rejections…

No problem though! There’s plenty more of you out there I’m sure! So, this is a reminder: if you want the chance to win a Premium B double pass (includes goodie bag! And cheap Britomart parking! And a free drink after the show! And more!) to Friday night’s show at the New Zealand Fashion Festival (2nd March) and a pair of Chuck Taylors, make sure you’re wearing your Converse sneakers out and about over the next 6 days!

Pictures of some of the people I’ve seen so far are below, I’ll be posting all of them on my Facebook Page shortly. Check it out!

In exactly 10 days, you will be able to get your hands on one of these.

Rosie and Kitty (Red 11) in the new tees.

As you may have already heard, my best good friend and best good collaborator Isaac (of Isaac Likes) and I have dusted off our tee-producing skills this past few weeks, and I am happy to officially announce that we are bringing you a re-released, limited run of our previously sold out ‘Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts’ shirts in two new colourways for Shop One Night.

The tees are NZ$65.00 each and will be sold online only (more details on exactly where, next week), so if you’re thinking about grabbing yourself one (and why wouldn’t you?!) make sure you’re on the interwebs somewhere between 5pm and midnight on Thursday the 23rd of February because there’ll be free shipping (in New Zealand) if you purchase within those hours. Holla!

Until then, keep your eyes peeled on the blog and tumblr for photos of our extremely attractive friends* getting into the spirit of things (as evidenced above).

Happy Monday readers!

*A big thanks (and in some cases, thanks in advance) to our extremely attractive friends! In the words of one Isaac Hindin Miller – we like you!

This is what I look like when I wear my brother's clothes.

All Images/James K. Lowe.

Very rarely a day goes by where I am not informed that I look like my brother, or that he looks like me. It’s true, James and I look alike – quite alike. We both have those dreaded Lowe-family chubby cheeks, the average eyesight, better-than-usual metabolism, long fingers and toes, tanned skin. I mean, we are related – what do you expect?

What James has that I haven’t seem to have inherited, though (aside from the height and skinny legs) is an innate sense of style. Sure, I like what I like and I can put together an outfit when under pressure, but James – James seems to have looking effortlessly cool, down. Maybe it’s the tattoos,  maybe it’s the fact that he’s the kind of person who spends $100 on (White Mountaineering) socks. Who knows? Regardless, the kid is fresh.

Over the weekend, partially out of boredom and partially because I find the whole concept hilarious, we took a couple of photos of me as James. Katherine Lowe, shot and styled (in outfits he actually wears) by James Lowe, if you will. The results are below (along with clothing credits, if you’re so inclined) and the rest (out-takes and the like) are up on my tumblr. Enjoy:

Thanks for reading, would you like a present?

L: Persol, R: Ralph Lauren

Ages ago I said if I ever won the fashion category of the Concrete Playground Bloggers Award, that I would be giving back to you readers to say thanks. Well, I did win (insert smiley face here) and as well as the glory, I also got to pick up some pairs of sunnies (thanks to Sunglass Hut) as my prize. Now we’re up to the fun part – where I get to say thanks.

I’ve teamed up with Tim and Joe of The Shutter Pirates (the winners of the overall award) and we’ve decided to conjointly give away two pairs of sunnies and two Shutter Pirates photographs.

How do you win? It’s pretty easy – all you have to do is like The Shutter Pirates and Katherine Is Awesome on Facebook then leave a comment either on this post here, or let me know which pair of sunnies you’d like (more pics below) in the comments on this photo here (not on this post), and you’re in the draw.

We’ll pull two names out of a hat in a fortnight’s time and if it’s yours then we’ll send you an A3 print of your choice as well as a pair of the sunnies that were gifted to me.

Happy Thursday night folks.

The Katherine is Awesome Arcade Takeover.

Hey, a bit of shameless self promotion here but isn’t that what blogs are all about? Anyway in case you hadn’t heard already, this little blogger is hosting a bit of a shindig next Thursday and would like you all to come!

Remember that shop Arcade? You need to join me there on the night of the 15th of December. Why? Because I’m going to be taking over the store (the Arcade boys are being relegated to drinks and music). From 5pm – 8pm expect new and limited one-night-only stock, storewide discounts, gifts with purchases, a couple of ‘katherineisawesome’ combos (including cheap deals on Vans authentics/Chucks/Caps/Socks etc – more on this later), Christmas gift giving advice from myself (and any other advice you need – let’s face it, I’m a one stop shop), delicious beverages (courtesy of Rochfort Rees and Peroni) and basically a fricken awesome time.

SAVE THE DATE!

PS: Girls, I know at least one male model and one pro skater will be there. If that doesn’t sell it for you, I don’t know what will.

PPS: Arcade is located at 22c Cross Street, Newton, Auckland, New Zealand. If you can’t make it, check them out anyway – there’s events happening every day up until Christmas!

It is now safe to say that Jessica Clarke is in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Image/via obsessionsareagirlsbf.tumblr.com

Here’s the latest from backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show which is taking place RIGHT NOW. As you can see by all these images of her in make-up in the signature Victoria’s Secret robe, all the rumours were correct – Jessica Clarke is New Zealand’s very first Victoria’s Secret Runway Angel.

WELL DONE JESS!

PS: In other news, it turns out Jay Z has just made a surprise appearance at the show! Is it just me, or does anyone else have the worst FOMO ever?!

Jessica Clarke is mere steps away from being New Zealand's very first Victoria's Secret Runway Angel.

All Images/via fashiongonerogue.com

Jessica Clarke fell off my radar for a little while, but the New Zealand model was swiftly brought back to attention last week, namely because of that rumour – which I think is most likely not a rumour but indeed actual fact (but we don’t want to jinx it and in modelling, until you’re on that damn catwalk, nothing is set in stone) – that she is confirmed to walk in tomorrow’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

For those who aren’t aware, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is literally one of the biggest things you can do in modelling. It’s a huge affair, the models are always top notch (previous ‘Runway Angels’ include Lily Donaldson, Abbey-Lee Kershaw, Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, etc), the money is said to be pretty fantastic and the exposure is incredible. It’s televised all over the world. Last year, Katy Perry performed at it. (This year performers include Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5.) It’s a big deal.

This is great, great, great news for Jess and great, great, great news for New Zealand modelling. No New Zealand model has ever walked a Victoria’s Secret show in it’s 17 year history. Fellow Kiwi, Georgia Fowler, has shot for Victoria’s Secret, but as far as walking the high profile show? No New Zealanders. Until now. I await the televised footage with bated breath.

Until then, check out the video of the casting below (Clarke makes an appearance 14 seconds in) and this recent editorial of Jess, shot by Derek Kettela for this month’s issue of Amica magazine. If she looks even half as good as she does here in the show, I’d say she’ll be well on her way to signing one of those coveted Victoria’s Secret Angels contracts.

GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS JESS!

Note: Photos below a little NSFW.

NZFW: Here's a video of the Huffer catwalk party last night.

Last night, Huffer threw a party on the catwalk as part of the finale to their runway show. This is a quick clip of it.

(Sorry about the quality guys, I wasn’t expecting to filming anything, let alone be plucked out of my seat and thrust onto the runway.)

I have turned into a spend freak.

Please lord someone put blazer in my mailbox. Please. A.P.C 'Veste 70s', $775.00 available at Fabric. All Images/fabricstyle.blogspot.com

Why is it, after months of no purchases and impressive savings (well, as much as one can when one does not have a real job – it’s all relative), does it all just fall apart mere weeks before I have to leave the country and live overseas for 4 weeks on the New Zealand dollar? I was doing so, so well until two weeks ago, when I walked into Karen Walker and impulsively bought some shoes on the spot. (I actually went home, freaked out about the purchase, took them back and exchanged them for pants… which are awesome, but that’s a story for another time.)

I don’t know why I did it, but it’s like I broke the seal. The savings seal*. It all snowballed from there: a pair of Opening Ceremony shoes, a pair of ASOS white brogues to make up for the fact that I’d taken back the Karen Walker ones (no logic, I know), two pairs of socks from Glassons that I saw in the window and decided I needed, two sets of underwear from Smith & Caugheys (underwear is my vice), an iPhone case and a whole host of other things (for example, I booked a haircut after nine months of not having one – apparently I can afford a haircut now that I’m a spend-freak).

But more on that later.

Today I came across these things on the Fabric blog. Apparently they have new A.P.C womenswear in. ‘So what?’ I thought, ‘I come across this stuff all the time’. But what I wasn’t banking on, is coming across THIS STUFF (below and above):

Ruby's Spring/Summer 2011-2012 Campaign: aka. the post where I fan-girl all over Samantha Shorter.

All Images/via 62models.com/blog

I try not to post too many editorial or campaign shots because I feel like you readers get bored of seeing that kind of thing all the time on the interwebs, so when I do post these types of things, you know I think they’re extra, extra special. I came across this new Ruby campaign this afternoon, shot by Guy Coombes, and I couldn’t help myself. My god does Samantha Shorter look good. The other girls look good too but Sam is next level good. That face of hers… No words. No words.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take Sam’s picture and I was seriously impressed. I don’t often take photos of models (well at least not in a controlled situation ie. not backstage at a show) and it’s remarkable to see how much difference it makes to take the photo of a really good, experienced model. That photo above on the left is my absolute favourite. The colour blocked outfit, the way her mouth is open, the lipstick. Everything. I love it. Love it, love it, love it

I’m gushing. I’ll shut up now. Enjoy the pictures. (Two more below).
