Highs and Low(e)s.

An almost empty Margarita at Mexico on Thursday night.

Highs:

  1. I RAN 10KM YESTERDAY FOR NIKE SHE RUNS! More on this later, but in short: It was actually kind of fun, I got to the end! I ran-walked it, I did not die, I did not come last, I did not get blisters, I feel like something is wrong with my left ankle.
  2. The Fraser Suites. Like I said yesterday, an amazing place to stay. If you’re ever planning a trip to Sydney, factor in the Fraser Suites.
  3. The Opening Ceremony x Adidas collection dropped into Area 51 on Tuesday night and there was a shindig for it, complete with Adidas three-stripe cocktails, ready-lawn displays and toffee macarons. My favourite thing? This tennis dress.
  4. It was a week of events because on Wednesday I got to go to this Moet* launch thing at Soul bar – basically if you buy a glass of Moet at Soul bar this month, you get a gold Moet ball which kind of looks like what I think the golden snitch would look like in Harry Potter, except minus the wings. Anyway, 1 in every 5 of the Moet gold balls is a prize, and at the end of the month they are doing a big prize draw and the winner wins a trip for two to bloody Dolphin Island in Fiji – and get this: you have the island to yourselves (and the Dolphin Island staff, obviously). How mental is that?! I can’t tell if it would be awesome or not, I mean, what if you had a fight?
  5. Thursday night was this party at Mexico to celebrate the opening of their new dining room – basically a place where you can now book for 10 or more people (as opposed to not being able to book at all), and as part of the hoo-rah, we got to eat and learn how to make margaritas. WHO THOUGHT BARTENDING COULD BE SO FUN?
  6. In short it was a good ass week for events.
  7. Ate at The Late Night Diner on Ponsonby Road. A couple of things: order the Bacon Croquettes, you won’t regret it. Also, get the homemade lemonade. I was too full to try the Peanut Butter Chocolate Fondant but I’m going to preempt myself and say that you should probably try that too.

Low(e)s:

  1. Okay, so I ran 10km, and I did it in 1 hour and 7 minutes and 40 seconds or something, according to my Nike app, but I don’t have an official race time and I don’t know why! I looked at the results and I my name doesn’t even come up in the search! IT’S LIKE I WAS NEVER THERE AT ALL! *cries, smashes left ankle against wall*
  2. Couldn’t get to sleep last night, the last thing I remember was looking at the clock and it reading 2:30am, then waking up at 6:37am and not being able to sleep then. We checked out of the hotel at 11:00am, so had to occupy ourselves out of the comforts of our rooms for a good 5 hours. I’m dead tired. Could be worse, but.
  3. Currently at airport waiting for delayed flight. So far the delay is only 30 minutes, but you know, it still sucks. I want to go home!

*FYI for those who don’t know already, the ‘t’ in Moet is not silent. It is pronounced. Like, MoeT. Anyway, just saying.

Highs:

  1. Lonely Hearts opened up shop within The Department Store on Saturday, which means I now have a place (other than Area 51) to go where I can see and try on pretty much the whole collection. They’ve also got the full Lonely lingerie range in there too. El perfecto.
  2. You will have seen this already, but I can’t get the song out of my head.
  3. I got to play dress-ups on camera for Isaac’s ‘Maybelline New York to NZ‘ web series. More on that later.
  4. James got a whole bunch of stickers made when he was in Korea and he’s been dishing them out all over the show. You might’ve seen them. I don’t really know why we’re hashtagging them or putting them places or what the purpose of the whole exercise is but I do know that it’s often like this with James and he always knows what he’s doing so I roll with it. #hapifriend
  5. Chicken in a bag. You know those roast chickens you can make that are already bagged and seasoned and with stuffing in them? Yeah they’ve probably got weird preservatives in them but I’m obsessed.

Low(e)s:

  1. Hey, so after that whole spiel last week about how you should get in quick for tickets to Ella’s show (Lorde), I missed out! I went online at 9:02am and they were already sold out in both Auckland and Wellington. Luckily enough, my friend Sarah remembered to hit the refresh button at work, as soon as the clock turned, and she had bought an extra. Phew. I imagine the same thing happened to many others and there are a tonne of people missing out. So sad! (But so good for Ella.)
  2. Does anyone else keep up with The Office? (The US version, I mean.) Is it just me or did it start getting bad? I really love that show and I was such a dedicated watcher until that farm episode a couple of weeks ago where Dwight goes off to his family farm. I know that was just an introduction to his spin-off show, but ever since then the jokes haven’t been as good, and now it just makes me feel sad. How many episodes ’til the end? I don’t know, but I hope it ends on a high.
  3. My blood tests results came back and one of the possible reasons I’m feeling so tired is because I have a little bit of a B12 deficiency. Anyway, the worst part of it is the fact that I need to have a shot of B12 a month for the next three months and I hate injections. Any kind of shot is terrible, but anything that goes into a vein is the absolute worst. Not cool.
  4. People who are time optimists. I feel like everybody I know except for me is a time optimist. No, you can’t drive from Mission Bay to the CBD and find a park and come to meet me in 10 minutes, so don’t tell me you’ll be here in 10!

Highs:

  1. Hey, this hasn’t happened this week so it’s kind of a false high of the week but for everyone who’s been asking, Lorde‘s playing her first proper Auckland show on May the 9th (and her Wellington one on May the 10th), so if you want to get in on one of the 300 or so tickets that are going to be available, you need to wake up in time to buy one for $25, online from 9:00am Monday (tomorrow) morning, here. I saw her perform a couple of weeks ago and it was off the chain, so I suggest you get in quick smart.
  2. I went behind the scenes at a Number One Shoes shoot on Friday afternoon and it was crazy to see how much goes into a shoot. I mean, I’ve been at shoots before but this one had the most equipment I’ve ever seen. #technical. Also, the most amount of clothes I’ve ever seen for four looks. More on this later.
  3. This video that I have rediscovered and been rewatching over and over and over again. “STAY ON YOUR SIDE!”
  4. I never thought I would ever be saying this but I dyed my hair for the first time since I was 14 and had red streaks (…that happened) and you won’t be able to tell because it’s basically the same colour, but it’s SHINIER. It was this Wella Illumina colour and now it’s all salon shiny and I have no colouring regrets whatsoever. Not like last time.
  5. I love my doctor. Her name is Michelle and she is pretty much the nicest doctor I’ve ever had. So sympathetic. Such good beside manner. When I was a kid I used to see this other guy who was okay but I never liked him that much and then he left and then I saw another guy and he was just so gruff and unsympathetic and blunt, especially to someone like me who goes to the doctor a lot because they sometimes have hypochondriac tendencies, and I didn’t like him at all really, so Michelle is my lifesaver and I hope she stays my doctor FOREVER.
  6. I’m currently watching the intro to X-Factor and it looks amazing. This might be premature but it looks entertaining guys, entertaining! I went to one live session which didn’t really seem like it does on tv, but you know, good editing and stuff.

Low(e)s:

  1. I mentally cannot run more than 5km. I do not know what it is but I just can’t seem to push through in my head. I literally bargain with myself the whole way and even if my legs aren’t too tired and I’m still breathing, I can’t MENTALLY keep going. How will I get to 10km by the 4th of May? How?
  2. If you have that weird gross feeling in the back of your throat but the rest of you feels fine, is there still time to rid the flu before it fully settles in?

Highs:

  1. Several great meals in Sydney (which I think I’ll blog about later), one of which was at Buffalo Dining Club. There was a pasta dish of spaghetti, olive oil, salt and pepper, and parmesan which was delicious – but here’s the kicker: they get a giant wheel of parmesan cheese that is dug out, and stir the hot spaghetti into that wheel of cheese at your table, scraping bits of parmesan into it. Then they pour it onto your plate. Amazing. PS. Thanks Murray!
  2. After spending a week in Sydney, I’m obsessed with talking in an annoying full-on Australian accent, and using Australian slang, much to the annoyance of everyone around me. It’s fully sick. Hectiiiiic. Too Easy.
  3. I’m not sure if you know, but I’m a Kiehl’s user. I don’t really talk about beauty stuff that much but you know, I feel like this is a good time. I think I was converted a couple of years ago when I used Isaac’s Acai foaming cleanser one time and it felt amazing. Anyway, I digress. The point is, I’ve been using Kiehl’s for a while now (the Creme de Corps is one of the best body moisturisers I’ve come across) and Kiehl’s NZ has just opened a flagship store in Britomart and started a new New Zealand Facebook Page, and to celebrate they’re giving away something like 100 prizes. Basically they’re giving away product so if you feel like being in to win one of the 100 items, you can enter here.
  4. Hey, so there’s a Mexico in Sydney!
  5. I went to this launch for Redken’s new range of ‘Diamond Oil’ products in Sydney. I don’t know if I’m a complete sucker but Creative Director (and New Zealander) Richard Kavanagh told me it would make my hair feel like 5 year old girl’s hair so I used the shampoo and conditioner and the actual oil tonight, and I THINK HE MIGHT BE RIGHT! Or am I being sucked in? So hard to say! On a semi related note, the above image is from Rodney Wayne’s latest campaign that he did the hair for (it was shot by Olivia Hemus). And on another related note, the daughter in the photo (it’s mother and daughter) is Valentina and she’s like, 15 or something, and she’s the daughter of Kim Larking, ex-model and owner of Clyne and Nova modelling agencies. Phew.

Low(e)s:

  1. My running training is not going according to schedule. Quite the opposite, in fact.
  2. Hey so has anyone noticed that I’ve just fallen off the internet? (More specifically, this blog) What does this mean? Is this the beginning of the end?

Highs and Low(e)s.

Highs:

  1. James (my brother) did this crappy job for me today. He is a lifesaver. Also, he is not moving to Korea anymore so I still have someone to take my What I Wore Today pictures! Yay!
  2. Huw Bennett from Vanishing Elephant is also a lifesaver. I had a tonne of work to do today and nowhere to do it (my hotel room wasn’t ready, my laptop was on 8% battery, my internet sucked, etc) and he offered the Vanishing Elephant offices for three hours! It was the best. I busted out heaps of stuff I was behind on and I got to hear Huw sing from his desk. Bonus.
  3. On Friday afternoon I flew back from Wellington to go to Lorde‘s first ever live show. It was basically a small, private showcase for her friends and some special people so I was really lucky to be invited. I don’t want to give too much away but holy crap she is good. I know Ella personally so I may sound biased but I honestly didn’t think she was going to be so great for a 16 year old doing her first performance as Lorde. She never seemed nervous before Friday and now I know why, it’s because she’s fucking incredible. She sounded amazing. I don’t know when she’s doing public live shows but keep an eye out because it’ll be one of the best things you’ll ever see.
  4. Hey I got a TEAM INTL beanie recently. I haven’t taken a photo of it yet because someone else has been wearing it, but above is a picture of James in his one. On a related note, TEAM INTL has collaborated with my friend Nivin, to make this mix-tape which you can listen to and download right here.
  5. Those Glassons long denim dungarees everyone is talking about, are now in store. You can grab them here, and look just like Zara. PS – she is wearing an 8, the sizing is pretty standard: (null)

Highs:

  1. I got sent flowers and it was so nice! I have been sent flowers maybe, twice before in my entire life and that was ages ago. The last time was in 2007 and they got delivered to my work and they were from my boyfriend who was overseas at the time and the note said something about how he missed me and he was coming home soon and couldn’t wait to see me and it was super nice at the time but then when he got back I realised he sent them because he cheated on me and was feeling bad about it, so yeah. This time it wasn’t like that, this time wasn’t out of guilt. If I sound bitter that’s because I am.
  2. This.
  3. I went to this Wella event on Tuesday, Wella Illumina which is this new kind of hair dye which is supposed to be better than anything else (I get to try it out next month so I’ll keep you posted then) and there were these amazing huge helium balloons, big spherical things  - not like your average oval helium balloon. They were like 60cm across or something. Some had glitter in them. They were awesome. I tried to find out where they’re from but all the information I’ve been given is that the were provided by Styled. Then, the next day, my friend Amelia at Starseed PR called me up to let me know that she’d done a little sneaky and kept one for me. Best day ever!
  4. I GOT AN IPHONE 5! This requires no elaboration or explanation.
  5. Had some pretty awesome cocktails at the Kiehl’s flagship store opening on Thursday night. They were served in beakers and test tubes, it was cool. The canapés included a deconstructed New York salmon bagel and mini duck burgers. Fancy schmancy and trés delicious man.
  6. I know I put a link to Slutever up pretty much every week, but it’s always just so good! This, especially.
  7. I got Snapchat a few days ago and finally found out what the big deal is. Yeah, I still think maybe it’s mostly for people to send dirty pictures without evidence, but you can have fun without getting naked too guys!

Low(e)s:

  1. My brother is moving to Korea for at least a year. He just found out two days ago and he leaves in a mere 6 weeks or so. I’m going to be all alone! There will be no one to take my WIWT’s! :’(
  2. I missed out on Rihanna tickets! Well, the ones I want. WHAT TO DO?
  3. I’m pretty sure I’ve not had more than 6 hours sleep maximum any night in over a week now. This doesn’t seem healthy.
  4. Season 2 of Girls ended this week. Now I have nothing to look forward to. On a related note, the last episode wasn’t that good, right? I mean, it was good, but it wasn’t as good as the episode before. And Marnie and Charlie?! What is that about?
