Highs and Low(e)s/Happy Birthday to Blog

Posted on March 6, 2016

Spectators at a Sports Event, 1933. Photo/Martin Munkacsi. It’s really weird, knowing that I have had this blog for seven years today. SEVEN YEARS. That is longer that Ben’s kid’s whole entire life. I’m so fucking old now, it’s mental. I’ve been thinking about it all day, how all these things have changed in the last seven years and how much of it is documented on here. (Not that it is easy to find now I have taken the easily accessible archive links away.) I had this whole idea last month that I was going to just shut this blog down today, on this birthday, some big dramatic shut down and then just never log in here again and never explain it to anyone…

Just checking in/Highs and Low(e)s

(I am using James’ computer and he has a great collection of photos on here including this one.) Photo/Stephen Shore.  Wa-ha-ha-haaay 2016 is really up and running huh. It’s bloody February already! I’ve spent the last three weeks ignoring this here blog, not because I’ve been that busy but mostly because I’ve been lazy. So, since January 10th a few things have happened: Firstly, two people I know got engaged, which is mental to me because I still can’t believe I’m at the age where that is normal. I mean, it’s not even just normal, it’s like, extremely common but for some reason not many people I know very well have gotten married. I can’t figure out if that is because all my friends are young/immature…

Highs and Low(e)s

Photo/Jamie Hawkesworth for NY Times’ T Magazine.  Highs:  My latest Youtube obsession (aside from watching Jimmy Fallon clips) is watching all the videos that Dr Sandra Lee aka Dr Pimple Popper, puts up on her channel. WARNING: Not for the squeamish. Sandra Lee is a dermatologist based in California who puts up these videos of various procedures she’s done – mostly blackhead, whitehead, cyst removals. It’s insane, very fascinating and addictive to watch. (I mean, if you’re into that kind of thing.) Auckland without as many people in it. I love it. Yesterday I was lucky enough to do the coin toss for the women’s final of the ASB Classic! I had a snapchat story of it but it’s gone now so I only…

Highs and Low(e)s.

Photo/Elaine Constantine for Vogue China November 2015 Highs: I don’t know much (read: anything) about Aare but from what I can see on their instagram (they don’t have a website as far as I can see), Aare is an Australian swimwear label arriving soon and I like it. The imagery is nice, the styles are limited and simple. My only problem with the label is that I have no idea how to get it, when it’s going to arrive or anything like that. (If you have any information, please share!) Gü chocolate puds. More specifically, the ‘hot chocolate melting middle’ pudding that you would’ve seen me try on snapchat the other day (my username is thedownlowe). I found them at the New World near my house…

Highs and Low(e)s

Jordan (Red 11). Photo/James K Lowe for Monster Children.  Highs: For those who are wondering I did 30 full push ups in one go on Tuesday at my final challenge! YAY! On Wednesday we had our work Christmas do and my boss gave me a Fitbit and I have been obsessed with checking my heart rate ever since. Also, related to Fitbit – how does it know when I’m asleep? Is that real? What about the calories? How does it know if I’m burning calories? HOW DOES IT WORK? I have moved house and the closest supermarket is the most expensive one in Auckland, New World Victoria Park. Prices aside, I have recently discovered the deli section and holy moly, chicken bechamel pies! Hot…

Highs and Low(e)s.

A shot of some blurry but ‘arty’ instax shots of my Chambord Christmas Dinner. Highs: Hey I’m finally back online! After a solid 8 days of no wifi and burning through my phone’s data like there’s no tomorrow, I’m now free to youtube as much as I bloody well want. Successfully moved house last weekend without crying. The Palace tv series. It’s only up until Dec 14th so get on it quick-smart! If you like dancing videos and dance reality shows and if you were ever a dancer as a kid you will love it. J Lo’s performance for the AMA’s. Wow, okay so I put this down as a note for last week’s Highs and Low(e)s so it seems kind of like this is…
