Store imagery/James K Lowe for twenty-seven names.
My friends Anjali and Rachel have a brand called twenty-seven names, and I know you have heard me talk about it before but they opened a new store in Newmarket about a week ago and it is quite beautiful so I wanted to share some photos of it. Fun fact: they did it all themselves. How cool is that? Anyway, I went to see it and this is going to sound really nerdy but the coathangers are verrrry nice. I suggest you check it out if you are in the area.
To celebrate their opening I decided to do a short Q&A with Anjali, who is hilarious and super cool, has great taste in music and is basically everyone’s dream girl. Check it:
1. Sum up your brand in 10 or less words.
Who’s that girl, sha nah nah nah
2. What are your favourite things in the Newmarket area?
Everyone is SO nice in Newmarket. Camper Coffee which is literally on our door stop makes the best coffee in Newmarket IMHO. We found Best Ugly was perfect for breakfast and Burger Burger was ideal for dinner. In other words we never had to venture far.
3. If you could open a store anywhere in the world, where would it be?
4. What songs will be playing in the new store?
Ratchet probably. I have Tidal, so The Life of Pablo for sure. Work was the theme song for Newmarket so that will have a high hit rate too.
5. What are your favourite pieces from the current collection?
My favourite things would be the Retrospect wool tee – in cinnamon [Editors note: I have this in two colourways and I can vouch for its awesomeness], and the Portrait coat.
6. What’s your favourite tv show?
Seinfeld. But Silicon Valley – that’s time well spent.
7. Send me a selfie
I’ll send one from the store on Friday…. [Editors note: This never happened but I did get one from Sydney today, see below]
8. If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Violence against women.
9. What are some of your goals for 2016?
- Get outside more.
- Cook more.
- Have a holiday.
- Teach Kenny to whip and nae nae. [Editors note: Kenny is her baby boy]
10. What’s the best thing you’ve seen on the internet?
Nothing tops baby panda sneezing – again IMHO. Also though Ra Pomare – he is hilarious. My sister stumbled on him on Instagram ages ago and now she LOVES this guy. We saw him at a cafe once in Wellington (I unfortunately didn’t notice) then we left – she was like “Anjali that was Ra Pomare!” It was so LOL. Anyway people should be following this guy, I mean if you like to laugh. And Ra, if you’re reading this it’s not too late… she’s @priya_a_stewart.
Anny, me, Nicole, Anjali, Priya, Maddy – contemporary Asian fusion.
The twenty-seven names flagship store is open at 6 Kent Street, Osbourne Lane in Newmarket.
