Highs and Low(e)s.

Highs:

  1. Hey, so you know what Polo is? It’s a sport. Like croquet or golf, combined with horse riding, for rich privileged people. That was probably the worst explanation ever, but whatever, if you want to know more you can just Google it. Anyway, what you may or may not know is that every year there’s the BMW NZ Polo Open, and this year it’s being held next week. As well as watching games of polo, you go to watch people, because there’s 1. Fashion shows, and 2. Punters are asked to uphold a dress code, which means there are always some pretty nice ensembles around. I am going to be honest and tell you that I really don’t know much about polo and I was never one of those ‘horsey girls’, but I have been before and it is a fun day out and I am pleased to let you know that I am able to share the polo love as I have a double pass to the ‘Fashion Lawn’ at the event, which is next Sunday (24 February). The double pass includes front row viewing at the Westpac Fashion HQ, entry to the Nice and Urlich after party, a drink on arrival and two individually packed picnic boxes. (More details here). Anyway, to enter, leave a comment letting me know one each of your highs and low(e)s of the week. Entries close 5:00pm Tuesday 19 February, winner will be notified via the email address they use to fill out the comment form.
  2. Booked a flight to Sydney for MBFWA. I haven’t registered yet but I guess that means I’m going?
  3. Speaking of fashion weeks, I’ve also locked in Wellington Fashion Week. Wellingtonians look out! But seriously, look for me, I don’t know who else is going and I might be a loner.
  4. I met Miranda Kerr on Friday. She seemed nice enough. I didn’t get to ask her anything so it’s hard to say exactly what I think of her but you know, she was skinny and surprisingly not that tall and pretty and smiley and polite. Just how you’d expect a supermodel to be.
  5. Girls. It seems the show is a bit polarising. You either love or you hate it, there’s no room for indifference. I love it. I know people who have started watching it but gotten so annoyed that they’ve stopped. I can understand it, Hannah can be pretty fricken ridiculous sometimes, and Jessa? Don’t even get me started. Regardless, I am really enjoying season 2 and this latest episode – episode 5 – was so good. Really sad, but really good and kind of relatable and does anyone else love that Joshua guy? *sigh*
  6. Summer is over half way done! What have I been doing this whole time?! Actually, let’s be honest, if you follow my instagram you’ll see that I have been taking full advantage of the weather. Yay! There’s only a couple of things left to cross off before the temperatures cool and we’re stuck with rain and wind. I’ve listed them here, on the Sunglass Hut’s Inner Circle. Who’s in?
  7. Got my “unread and need responding to” emails down from 73 to 31. Pretty good if you ask me.
Low(e)s:
  1. I had a difficult discussion over the phone with someone last week, one of those ones where you go around in circles and you’re both trying to explain yourselves and it just goes on and on and before you know it, it’s been an hour. In this case, it was an hour and a half and it was only when I hung up that I realised I was the one who dialed them. That explains the $280 Vodafone bill.
  2. Really Kate Upton?? REALLY?! Ugh.
  3. Why did The Ice Bar Co. stop making lemonade flavoured ice-blocks?! They were the best flavour they had! What were they thinking?! I’ve tried the others and I don’t like any of them. Someone, where else can I get a lemonade ice-block that was as good? What other ones are there? Is the lemonade (with lime) Niceblock my next best option?
  4. AY WHERE WERE ALL MY VALENTINES?
  5. I got mad bills to pay. Mad bills and not much of an income right now. I feel like I’m constantly complaining about money and I’m turning into one of those girls who cries about their finances and then goes and buys a sweater, so there’s also that. I’ll just shut up now.

  • High: I went to Queensland and got to see my parents that I hadn’t seen in two years and little brother that I hadn’t seen in four years. Holla at feeling like you’re related to someone!!

Low(e): I literally just got in the door from flying home and it’s sunk in that uni, my internship and my job have all ended and I’m unemployed. With a Visa bill from going nuts in the Myer sale. Eff selling my clothes on TradeMe, I might have to sell my soul. But at least I’ll look pretty this season.

  • High of the week – Being a part of someone’s special wedding out at Piha yesterday! Fully equipped with vintage jars, bunting, crepe flowers, delicious canapes and hanging frames in the trees!

Low(e) of the week – Having to study all today, for a 3 hour exam tomorrow. Kill me!

  • Great comp! I’m dying to go but I’m on a budget.

My high: Wednesday my entire Wednesday I was off work, got my makeup done, did some shopping, brunched and lunched. it was the absolute best for it to be a Wednesday and not be at the office.

My low: the decision was made today that my beautiful dog should be put down as suggested by the vet. I suspect this will be the low for next week.

    Thanks Katherine :)

  • Hello,

My high of the week was sending flowers to a friend while she was at work – she works in retail so there was an audience of customers present upon arrival of said flowers – as a token of appreciation for her getting my smashed iPhone fixed for super cheap. Apparently the gesture sufficed to evoke an intensely positive emotional response, which in turn raised my spirits enough for it to qualify as a high.

My low was finishing the late night shopping shift at work, making my way to Grafton to visit friends, then realising upon arrival that it was Valentines eve and they were both inside with their girlfriends, doing whatever couples do on Valentines. Of course, I couldn’t bring myself to disrupt their evening, so I wandered back into town and went to Cassette and had a cry.

  • I am in love with Episode 5 of Girls, right from Hannah’s horrible rumper to the amazing piano piece at the end. Trying to search for that song on the net to download! Patrick Wilson is a babe. Enough said.

  • LOVE Girls. LOVE Joshua. HATED Hannah at the end of it, but got that she thought she’d finally found someone she could expose herself completely to, and then he thought it was a bit strange and weird because it was, and he did what any normal guy would do. I’m sad for her that she didn’t play her cards right, but I’m happy that she knew better that to play cards, because she’s totally not that kind of girl.

  • High: Finally on first name basis with the owner of my favourite take out (wok n noodle). Lee is pretty great.

Low(e): I told one of those charity workers on Queen street that I was a tourist and in a rush so had no time to talk. I then managed to bump into them again about 20 minutes later. In my attempt to avoid them, I ran into someone causing a huge scene (in full view of the 4 busy traffic light surroundings and the persistent charity worker) . That someone was blind.

  • Yes! Mean competition.

High: A massive weekend in Paihia at an incredible bach with people that, only six weeks ago, I barely knew, complete with animal hats and cheerleader pompoms and $5 beers and reenacting the Lion King and drunkenly creating our own Harlem Shake video which is absolutely awful and pathetic, yet hilarious because of this.

Low(e): Driving home yesterday to the reality of my bank account and the fact that I simply cannot drink like I’m 18, anymore. Because I am 28. And today, my entire body still hurts and I still kind of have the awful hangover taste in my mouth. Two day hangovers are not the shit, when there is no one to blame but yourself.
