You know fashion week is really getting into gear when the model casting comes ’round. I rose early on Sunday morning (8:00am is early when you went to bed at 3:00am) and made my way down to the casting venue – bleary eyed and grumpy, camera in tow. I mean, I’ve said it before, but what normal person wants to spend three and a half hours of their Sunday morning surrounded by lithe, beautiful people a foot taller and with 40% less body mass? Not this one, but a job’s a job (a blog’s a blog) so I took one for the team (ie. YOU GUYS) and I did it.
This year’s casting felt different to previous years. Within the Auckland/New Zealand modeling industry, I think there’s a bit of change of guard going on right now. Our usual working models are overseas, or heading overseas, and there are a tonne of fresh faces ready to replace them. And when I say a tonne, I mean a tonne. There were so many girls (and boys) at this thing. What a nightmare to organise. And with tonnes of models, come tonnes of photos. I didn’t even get everyone’s photo -maybe only even half the amount of people – and I still have enough to last about 5 blog posts. And so that’s what I’m doing this working week – posting at least 20 photos from the casting a day (read: milking it) – so if you don’t see yourself/your friend/your favourite model, it’s probably because they’re coming tomorrow.
