Ariel Urlich.
- Name: Ariel Urlich
- Agency: Red 11
Age: 20
Height: 5’11.5″ - Ethnicity: New Zealand Maori
- How did you get into modelling and how long have you been doing it for?
I was discovered by August Models originally at a race car rally derby track. I was just chilling there with my friends watching the cars. One of the bookers approached me, and asked if I wanted to be a model. I said ‘not really’ but I ended up going into the agency anyway. This was back in 2010. - You’ve travelled a lot. What has been your favourite place to model so far?
- Yeah, I travelled the whole of last year. Two weeks after I moved to Red 11 I was sent overseas and have travelled a lot since. New York was cool but hard to keep toned and have the right measurements. My favourite place so far was probably Beijing.
What would be your dream modelling destination?
Probably Paris. I’ve always wanted to go there even though it would be quite hard. I am going to India soon though! I’ve always wanted to go there too.
- What do you love about modelling, and what do you hate about it?
Meeting new people, and travelling. Definitely the travelling. What do I hate? Ohhhh so much. (Laughs.) The inconsistency. The rejection upset me at first because I care what people think, but now I’m used to it – I don’t take it to heart. Seriously. It’s not you, it’s just the look that they’re looking for. I don’t mind either way anymore. You always know you might get a job the next day.
If you weren’t modelling, what would you be doing?
I really don’t know! I had no plans to go to University or anything. I had no plans so I’m glad I’m modelling full time!
What’s been your favourite modelling job so far?
This Nivea TVC I shot in Bangkok. I’m in it for about three seconds. I got paid well. They flew me over for a week, all expenses paid – accommodation, flights, allowances, everything. Then it got cancelled so they flew me back to New Zealand, and then flew me back again the week after. All expenses paid. Amazing.
What’s the last thing you bought?
This top, and this singlet. I’ve been shopping. Yesterday was pay day.
Purple.
Favourite food?
Pizza.
Favourite model?
I don’t have any… Oh wait! Sharni and Rhiannon! [Local models sitting next to her at the time].
What’s something people wouldn’t necessarily know about you?
I’m scared of clowns. Like, terrified of them. You know the ones at Rainbow’s End that have the open mouths and go side to side? You know even if they’re cartoon or on TV. Any clowns with the make-up, they freak me out! I don’t know why but they really do.
I’d get you to draw something right now but because this was impromptu and we’re outside and I don’t have a pen or a piece of paper I can’t.
(Laughs.)
