Gorman's 'Aran' Jumper. All Images/Hone Hernandez.

Saturday marked a pretty special occasion for New Zealand (well, Auckland) retail. Melbourne-born and much wider known womenswear label, Gorman, opened up shop in the old Trelise Cooper Kids space on Nuffield Street in Newmarket. Not one to shy away from the opportunity to a.) see new clothes, b.) try them on and c.) have my photo taken, I rushed down on Monday with a new photographer in tow (one that I’d never met until 5 minutes before these photos were taken – check his work here) and had a little try on of my favourite pieces from A/W 2012. These are the results:

Mid-rise crop cord pants, Racing stripe top, Cecelia heels.

I’m wearing a cropped tee which is not something I’d usually go for, but it turned out to be the favourite of all the pieces I saw that day. Sometimes it’s nice to have something a bit shorter to pair with all the high-waisted everything that you see around.

The cords come in a couple of colours and they’ve also got the same style in coloured denim for those who are that way inclined.  The best part is the length on these pants – I’m short so cropped pants are my jam.

Geo animal pant, Lucy tee, Cecelia heels.

I don’t usually go for a crazy print but just this once I gave it a go, guys! I gave it a go! And I think it kind of worked because when I was having my photo taken, this old guy walked past me and said ‘nice pants love’, which I took as a compliment and not as sarcasm.

(Also – yellow t-shirt: so good.)

Hider pant, Baguette L/S top.

Stripes are prevalent throughout the whole collection, so if breton is your jam you will not walk away from the store disappointed. Gorman also makes the above ‘Hider’ pant which I would describe as chinos for girls who are freaked out about wearing chinos. They’re a slimmer fit than your average chino, but have the same sort of look.

Something I noticed about Gorman was the extensive range of interesting knitwear they do. If you’re looking for something a bit snuggly for winter, but in an interesting colour or print, definitely check them out. The above cardigan also comes in an orange that screams autumn and the sweater I’m wearing in the first picture is something I’d pair with pretty much everything.

Traveller jumper, Mini Mouse leather mini.

Sherpa weekend dress, Charlotte duffle coat, Cable knit socks, Ceclia heel.

I know it’s a little cutesy, but the checked sherpa weekend dress really is something you’ll be able to wear all through winter. It’s warm and has long sleeves (that you can’t see in the photo, but trust me) and you could wear it over tights, with a sweater, on its own or even with the duffle coat I’ve paired it with above. It’s pieces like these that make me feel okay about cold weather.

Finally, if anything, you have to visit Gorman just to check out their socks – the cable knit ones are good, but the snowflake ones are even better:

Now here comes the exciting part. I have a $500 voucher for Gorman to give to one of you lucky Auckland/travelling to Auckland readers to spend at the new Nuffield Street store. All you have to do is ‘like’ the Katherine is Awesome Facebook Page (which has, as you may have noticed, recently converted to the new timeline…) and tell me one of the items you’d buy with your voucher if you won – comment it below (using your real email address because that’s the email I’ll be contacting the winner with!) – the valid entries will go into a hat and chosen at random and I’ll be announcing the winner next Wednesday, 4 April 2012.

Good luck buddies!
