New week, new things.

New this week: The Caker is now selling cakes out of Eight Thirty on K'Rd.

A lot of Mondays back, I started this section: New week, new thing, which was supposed to showcase something new for week – whether it was new to you or new to me or had just been released and new to the world. It lasted about 3 weeks. Basically, I fell off. But, because I am now on a blogging ‘roll’ per se, and in the spirit of stickability and integrity being consistent and reliable and all those good things you look for in a blogger (and person!) I have decided to bring it back. No falling off this time.

Because this is a revival of some sort, I’ve decided to change the format slightly. Each week I’ll be bringing you three new things – and not all fashion, either. Wish me luck! Here goes:

The Caker's gluten-free Chocolate Cake.

  • First up, cake. This is for you Aucklanders. Last week, Jordan Rondel aka ‘The Caker‘, opened up shop inside K’ Rd’s upwardly mobile coffee roastery, Eight Thirty. I popped in on Thursday for a particularly good trim flat white and was greeted with a fresh-out-of-the-oven slice of orange cake. It was delicious. So, for all of you looking for your cake fix – you can now grab a slice from her at 553 Karangahape Road, Auckland CBD. (And for those wanting to order a full cake to themselves, you can still do that and pick up from this brand new location.)

Supreme x Comme des Garcons Shirt t-shirt. Image/hypebeast.com

  • Okay, okay, okay, I know what you’re thinking: Supreme? Comme des Garcons? This the most scene-y collaboration of all time and people are only going to buy it for the labels, not because it looks good. Yeah, you’re right. Supreme could stick that box logo on a roll of toilet paper and it’d sell out within seconds. And, if I’m being completely honest, I don’t know if I like some of the collection (those shoes…) but regardless of all of the above – this t-shirt gets me. It really, really gets me. I’m a sucker for the polka dot and yeah, when I see it I can imagine taking a photo of myself in it and that sh*t going crazy on tumblr, but I actually think it’s cool. Tucked into a cute little pair of navy shorts, high ponytail, socks and McNairy’s or something – it would be amazing. The hardest thing will be obtaining one of these. If my previous experience at Supreme is anything to go by, there’s no chance in hell I’m going to get my hands on one. But it’s worth a try, right?

Karen Walker Cocoon Coat. Images/karenwalker.com

  • This Karen Walker Cocoon coat has been on my mind for about three weeks now, but I just can’t seem to justify (or afford) the $805 – $990 price tag that comes with it. Regardless, I’m sharing this with you because if I can’t have it, somebody has to. It is a thing of beauty. Warm and solid, with sleeves that aren’t too long, and a perfect single button. I’ve tried the navy hatch one on three times in the store and I honestly think it’s the best coat to come out of New Zealand for this Winter. It’s a miracle I didn’t try to smuggle it out of the store. I’ll be incredibly jealous, but one of you has to pull the trigger and get it! Do it now! (It also comes in other colours but the above two are my favourites.)

  • oh god the tshirt. you have to get this. do you rekon these are supreme store exclusives?

  • 2 words: Lay-buy. Or is that one?

Love that coat too. Want it.

  • i reckon we could gather up our pennies and just about get one between us.

  • I think you should layby the coat in the blue. It would be AMAZING on you. (Sorry, I’m being the online equivalent of a devil on the shoulder right now!) I paid the eye watering price of 1,000 for a Karen Walker coat two seasons ago and I haven’t regretted it once.

Moving to Auckland in July, and I think my first stop will be at Eight Thirty for a slice of cake – I’ve been following The Caker for over a year now and to say I’m impatient to actually try the goods is an understatement! Great to see her doing so well :-)

  • The Tees have already sold out at Dover Street Market.

  • Yay EightThirty, best coffee ever. Best barista ever.

  • Hi, I know this is an old post but I found it googling ‘Karen Walker Cocoon Coat’. I’m wanting to get this coat but I’m unsure about sizes and since I’m living in Hong Kong (Kiwi in HK) I don’t want to spend all the $$ and get the size wrong. I’m typically size NZ8 or US6 in KW but I’m only 5ft 2″ and as this is an over sized style I’m not sure whether I need to size down. Or if the style would swamp me. Since you’ve tried it on a few times what do you think?

  • Ooops I meant size US4!
