A guide to this Saturday's garage sales.

If you’re in Auckland and you like garage sales, bargain shopping, snacks (bbq’s and home-made lemonade, for instance) and generally just a good ol’ time, this Saturday (tomorrow) you’re in for a treat. This Saturday there are three ‘garage sales’ full of all these thing and more, that you should be aware of. This is my guide to navigating them all:

Before this all begins let me warn you: you are going to have to wake up early. I know it’s the weekend and weekends are for sleep-ins but early bird catches the worm and first in is first served and everyone knows you’ve got to be quick at these things. You’re going to have to wake up before 9am if you want to get in first. Also, you’re going to need cash for two of them. Cash is king.

SO. If I were you I would make your first stop 49 Haslett Street in Eden Terrace. This is where Olivia Coote of Auckland Street Style and Make Believe fame, is selling her wares from 9am. She’s moving house so she’s got to get rid of a lot of things, ‘mainly clothes’ (awesome, because Olivia is a pretty snappy dresser) but also other bits and bobs, including cool stuff she makes herself. Plus she’s going to make a batch of lemonade! Can’t say no to that. So fill your bag with clothes and crafty goods, quench your thirst and head on your way…

…To 25 Nuffield Street, Newmarket, where Ruby will be holding a garage sale full of new goods, SS11-12 stock, samples (SAMPLES! I love samples) and shoes. Plus they’re going to have a BBQ so there’s brunch for you. Plus they’ll take eftpos and credit card so for those who haven’t got cash – this is the garage sale for you. (PS: Take note of that footer on the image above, grand re-opening! Goodie bag! Take note!) Bustle up those one-off samples and cheap goodies and get moving…

… If you’re into vintage, NZ designers (ie. Stolen Girlfriends Club, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Lonely Hearts and more), International Designers (Alexander Wang, TopShop, Ksubi and more) and records, you’re definitely going to have to make your way to Zara’s garage sale. She’s one of New Zealand’s queens of styling and she always looks awesome so you know she’s going to have some great clothes. PLUS the DHDFDs are playing, they’ve got beer and they’ve got sausages for those still hungry after snacking at Ruby. The Zara and friends Garage Sale is at 41 Regina Street in Grey Lynn (next to the supermarket) and will run 11am ’til 3pm.

After all of this is done and your legs are tired and your wallet is empty and your car is full of bargains, I suggest you take a nap. You deserve it. Well done guys, you’re such troopers.
