New week, new thing: Penny Sage's Comets and Ghosts skirt.

Morning readers! It’s official. Winter is done, we’re moving onto Spring/Summer, and hand in hand with the warmer weather comes bare flesh and beautiful sheer pieces just like this ‘Comer’s and Ghosts’ skirt from Penny Sage.

Penny Sage is created by Kate Megaw, a Wanganui College of Design graduate, who has worked with Miss Crabb here in Auckland, New Zealand, and Christian Wijnants in Antwerp, Belgium. Her clothes are special. Megaw hand knits, hand dyes, hand paints and strips back fabrics – giving the one-off pieces a crafty aesthetic. And what’s more – all the fabrics in her collection are natural.

My favourite thing from this coming Spring/Summer Collection, ‘Golden Blue’, is this ballerina-esque, super sheer, gathered skirt. The colour is unexpected and it really just looks like the perfect, comfortable and pretty thing to throw on, on a sunny day – paired with a tank (as above) or maybe even a little t-shirt and slouchy sweater and a sunhat. I could literally see myself wearing this whole outfit. This hardly ever happens to me, so you know there’s something special going on with this one. The best part for me is the length – it’s not one of these floor length jobs, it’s above the ankle – perfect for short girls like me, and even better – perfect for showing off your shoes.

Penny Sage is available from Miss Crabb in Auckland. For more of her beautiful pieces, see the whole lookbook here. (It’s worth looking at just for the beautiful pictures – shot on film – by Natasha Cantwell.

  • can i have one of those skirts please!?? rad

  • ‘It’s official. Winter is done, we’re moving onto Spring/Summer’….. someone didn’t leave their house today! FREEZING

  • I think it’s really cool your showing off an emerging designer. Love her collection! If only it was available in Wellington! I really like her use of natural fabrics. Would love to read an interview about this and how she does so much herself?

(This sort of sounds like I’m promoting her? Haha. But actually this is the first time I’ve heard of her)

  • I adored this collection as soon as I saw it on ‘So much to tell you’. My favourites are the burnt orange dresses. I am starting to think that your ‘new things’ feature is not so good for my wallet :P
