NZFW: What's in the bag?

Who?: Olivia Coote – Street-style Photographer at Auckland Street Stylebabe who takes photos, babe who makes crafty things.

What’s in the bag?: Olivia is carrying a camera in her bag. Actually, I’m pretty sure she said cameras (plural). This is understandable as she’s a street style photographer and a normal photographer and a photographer of crafty things. Look. Basically Olivia is just awesome, so read her blogs okay?

NZFW: Things I've seen at Ruby – Part 1, Liam.

This morning I woke up dead tired. I rushed over to Anouk’s place to grab her and head to the first show of the day – Ruby. Well, it was really two shows in one. The first being Liam, a new brand under the Ruby label (much like Madame Hawke – which, as of next Winter, is defunct). The venue was amazing – a huge shed in Grey Lynn, set up with an impressive array of lights and all sorts (the show was being live-streamed in stores). It was, in my opinion, the most international looking set up this week. (Big ups to The Creators who put that together!) Liam opened with a spotlight on the logo on the wall, and Chelsea Jade Metcalf and her collaborative – Watercolours played live.

My favourite thing from the show? The above blue cobalt suit. I could definitely do one of those in my wardrobe. (That camel coat wouldn’t go amiss either…)

Here’s what I saw (from the front row! Holla!) from the Liam collection – Ruby collection coming soon(ish)!:

NZFW: Hey, you look cool.

This is Harriet Were. Harriet is up for the week from Wellington. Harriet is a twin, takes awesome photos, has an incredible sense of style and at the moment, has pink hair.

Harriet’s wearing all Comme des Garcons (coat and pants) and Comme Homme shoes! “I like dressing like a house, and being comfortable, and mens/unisex clothes. I was wearing a long sleeve mens Comme top underneath, and a mens watch!”

All Comme Everything!

NZFW: Things I've seen at Jimmy D.

I’m not gonna lie. I went into the Jimmy D show today feeling panicked. Panicked and rushed. And distracted. The amount of people who have said ‘hi’ to me today only to be confronted with a weird blank stare, or just plain being ignored, is ridiculous. It’s 2:10pm and I’m feeling pretty behind so it’s safe to say if you come and talk to me today, it’s unlikely you will get a coherent response.

That out of the way, I did sit through the Jimmy D show and I managed to enjoy myself. My favourite thing from the show? The harnesses and the lingerie. The harnesses I would never be able to pull off myself, but the underwear is definitely on my radar for next winter.

See some of what I saw, below:

NZFW: Off-duty Model – Ella.

Ella is one of my favourite girls to take photos of. Nobody has owned the last year like she has. And she’s such a nice girl. I think she’ll go far. Anyway, no more gushing. I quickly caught Ella after the Ruby show today – it’s a rare occasion that you get time to snap her because she’s booked so many shows this week. Doesn’t she look marvellous? Such a cute dress. And those cheekbones. And that hair?! Oh wait, I’m gushing again.

NZFW: I am running behind!!!

I’m sorry. I’ve fully dropped the ball today guys. I forgot to bring my mouse, my trackpad on my laptop is screwed and I have a gazillion photos from the Ruby/Liam show to go through and put up. I think we’re gonna have to get a bit out of order and post Ruby later. If you’ve been wondering what has been going on in iPhone quality photos – check out the tumblr. There’s pics from Celine Rita, and I’ve just uploaded a low-res video of the finale of that show (see above).

I’ve got Jimmy D to go to in about 5 minutes, then Lonely Hearts and Trelise Cooper before I get any kind of posting break but bear with me!!! Until then, enjoy these hilarious photos of Samantha Shorter and Anouk Rondel. Those girls know how to make fashion week fun.

NZFW: Hey, you look cool.

Who?: Nicola Cook, graphic designer and blogger at Knock You For Six.

Spotted: Nicola was chillin’ outside the Fashion Week venue, she was wearing a Zara blazer & shirt, Witchery neck cuff, pants made by herself and shoes by Pierre Hardy for GAP, all because it was an easy and comfortable first day outfit. The heels were the last pair of all the GAP stores in San Francisco and they fitted her feet exactly! She thinks it’s destiny.

NZFW: What's in the bag?

Who?: Jordan Rondel – The CakerBlack Magazine contributor, amazing dresser.

What’s in the bag?: Jordan is carrying a disposable camera. Why? Because I made her. (But she was happy to do it!) She’s photographically documenting her week for me, so I can share it with you. Look out for it!

PS: Yes, that is a current season Karen Walker coat. Like I said – amazing dresser.

NZFW: Off-duty Model – Rosie.

Rosie is pretty cool. I asked her to do something many people wouldn’t today, and she obliged. In fact, she seemed pretty happy to do it. (More on that later.) As well as that-thing-I-asked-her-to-do-that-we-aren’t-talking-about-right-now*, Rosie also stopped to let me take her photo even though she was late for her next show. Like I said – she’s pretty cool.

*MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER! IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT!

NZFW: People and photos at the Twenty-seven Names presentation.

Collection photographs by Guy Coombes/Supplied.

Twenty-seven Names did something a little different to present their Winter 2012 collection to us today. Held at the Hopkinson-Cundy Gallery on Cross Street, the brand put on a little bit of an exhibition instead of your typical show. It was a breath of fresh air at 9:00pm tonight, after a solid 9 hours of catwalk. There were drinks a plenty (and delicious whoopie pies baked by none other than Jordan Rondel, aka. The Caker) so the whole thing turned out to be like a little bit of a party. The presentation consisted of photographs of key pieces in their collection on model (and model agency owner) Ngahuia Williams. It was very clever (see the images to know what I mean). Big ups to Guy Coombes, who shot all the artworks.

Because you’re probably going to see these photos a million places elsewhere, I’ve interspersed them with a few photos of people on the night. Happy viewing:

NZFW: Things I've seen between the heads at Salasai

Another show, another second row seat. Not that I’m complaining. I can’t believe I’m even getting seated at all to be honest. Salasai was held at St Matthews in the City – that church that people love holding fashion shows at. And you can see why. That place is pretty magnificent. There’s such a sense of grandeur in that building. There were canapés and drinks served prior to the show (the former of which I unfortunately missed out on) and people sat in the pews. Which brings me back to my excuse for these photos – I was in the second row of pews. These photos were taken between front-rower’s heads. Hopefully you get a glimpse of the collection. (Sorry about the lack of menswear!) It was really quite beautiful. My favourite pieces were the things made out of the blue check fabric.

See what I saw here:

NZFW: Things I've seen at Juliette Hogan.

Two of my favourite girls, Samantha Shorter and Emily Theyers.

Juliette Hogan was my favourite show today. A great selection of models, beautiful hair and make-up and just my kind of clothes. Pretty dresses and lovely knits and best of all, a preppy, school-girl-ish vibe. Oh, and some amazing pairs of cropped narrow pants that I wish I had right now. I loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

I was sitting on the steps between the seats during the show so I have a kind of different photographic angle for you all. Side on. I kind of like it, it shows how the clothes move. Here’s what I saw:

NZFW: What's in the bag?

Who?: Hannah McArdle – Blogger at Aych Blog, social media addict.

What’s in the bag?: ”The delicious Motorola XOOM that Motorola and Telecom have kindly lent me to trial for the week. Already my life is so much more amazing because of it! Its super fun and easy to use and because it is run on android technology the features I uses most  (gmail and blogger) are really well integrated into the XOOM layout. I don’t know how I am going to cope when I have to return it!”

NZFW: Lili Sumner's favourite thing from the Starfish show.

This is Lili Sumner. She’s a model. You may remember her from earlier posts on my blog. I caught Lili backstage at the Starfish show about an hour ago – I commented that she was wearing a bit of a crazy outfit. She replied with, ‘I am wearing. the. best. socks. ever!!!’, before rolling up her pants to show me:

NZFW: A view from the second row at Hailwood.

My favourite piece of the show.

I wasn’t so lucky with my seating at Hailwood this afternoon – granted, second row is pretty damn good for a little ol’ blogger, but it’s not so damn good for a little ‘ol blogger who wants to take a photo. The place was pretty packed out – it was in the bigger of the two sheds, and even so, it was chock-a-block. Good, considering that a lot of the shows I’ve been to today have had relatively… how do you say… not. such. good. attendance. There! I said it! I said what no one else has said but I bet everyone has wanted to say!

Anyway! Forget that for a minute because Hailwood was full and the show was good! So good!!! People had high expectations so I’m glad Hailwood delivered. My favourite piece? The dress above. Girly with a great bold print (see below). You can’t get much better than that.

Here’s what I saw from between the two heads in front of me:
