As much as I have wanted to be, I have never really been a Zambesi girl. Zambesi girls are kind of intimidating.
In my mind, Zambesi girls have this insane, clever sense of style, the ability to layer and most of all, an aura of ‘cool’. Basically, three things that I would love to have but never will. It’s because of this mindset that I have never really bought much from Zambesi, much less delved deep into their racks of clothes. But despite all this, I do have great respect for the brand and was delighted when asked if I would like to preview their Spring/Summer 2011-2012 collection.
So yesterday I went, determined to not be intimidated and to have an open mind about it all. I mean, maybe I could be a Zambesi girl! Maybe I just needed to be less of a wuss and just jump right in! So I did. And I was pleasantly surprised. The clothes were beautiful. Sure, there were a few things I couldn’t wear, but upon closer inspection of the collection as a whole, there were so many pieces I could wear – lovely, loose dresses, patch-fabric shorts and long, soft knits, for instance. I don’t know what I was so afraid of this whole time!
The moral of the story, kids, is to just give things a go!
These are some of my favourites from the lookbook, with the ‘knife’ pant (above left) and the marled fisherman knit top (above right) being my top picks of the lot:
