You know how James is all of a sudden no longer my weird little brother, and now a ‘cool guy’? Well, it turns out he’s also quite clever and kind of good at writing. Who would’ve thought? He’s just written one of the funniest things I’ve read from him in a while. Check it out here. And for the skeptics, the story is completely true.

I got James to try on my new made-to-measure Crane Brothers pants yesterday. Yes, they’re beige (ish). Yes, they’re cuffed. (No, Isaac didn’t make me buy them.)
So they’re a lot too short on him, but despite that, the kid still looks way better in them than I do:
Whilst looking through these photos last night, I couldn’t stop wondering to myself – when was it that my little brother suddenly became so much cooler than me?
Sigh.
As the thing I want to blog requires me to have my photo taken and there is noone around right now, and because I’m feeling the pressure to post something original, I have decided to enlighten you with my personal highs and lows of the week thus far:
Highs
- Making caramel pudding and it turning out successfully!
- Wearing my new made-t0-measure Crane Brothers pants and a stranger asking me where I got them from because they looked so great.
- Being the one to tell my ex-boyfriend (whom has moved overseas for 5 months) that the girl he is subletting his room to is having multiple partners share her (his) bed on multiple occasions. How do I know this? It’s so loud the rest of the flat can hear it and they told me. Why am I telling you this? I’m an over-sharer. Why is this a high? Hard to say, I think I just like being the bearer of awkward and hilarious news.
- Parking in a pay-and-display area (without paying-and-displaying) and not getting a ticket!
- Having milk in my coffee for the first time in a month. I miss the milk so bad.
Lows
- Getting sick. (Probably karma from the parking thing.)
- Seeing a man spit out his car window, onto the road, when waiting behind him in traffic.
- Eating caramel pudding for breakfast, then weighing myself afterwards, the bailing on going to yoga for the third week in a row.
Another ad from the best year of all years! Gosh, doesn’t everyone look so… bright? So much energy! And everyone’s so happy in their sportswear. They’re loving it (especially the guy in the red tracksuit on the right), the kids are loving it, I’m loving it:
(Apologies for the not-so-good crop in the scan. The bit underneath the logo reads ‘Benetton has all the colors in the world’.)
And in related news, I thought it would be interesting to post some images from the fall 2010 campaign from the brand to compare:
25 year’s later, the models are moodier, the colours aren’t as bright, they’ve gotten rid of the little ones and obviously the clothes have changed, but the whole ‘group-of-faces-from-different-places-and-different-races’ aesthetic is still there. (More below.)

Today was a super busy day at work. I never got to leave the office. I kept looking outside and wishing I could escape somewhere sunny and relaxed. Somewhere I could dress all carefree – light, loose layers and worn-in comfy without feeling like I had to bring some kind of cover up to keep warm. Somewhere I could put on a summery-outdoor-festival-type outfit, let down my hair and get a bit of a tan. Just like these girls.
Honestly, Bill Cunningham New York rates as one of the top 5 films I have ever seen thus far in my life.
The New Zealand Film Festival is almost over in Auckland, but there are screenings of the film at various other locations around the country. I recommend you check out. Seriously, even for non-fashion-followers or photographers, this is one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen.
I can’t wait to buy the DVD.
Note – I couldn’t find a trailer online, but I did come across his overview on mens street style from the NY Times, which I thought was pretty cool:
I am going to say something kind of (for lack of a better word,) gross. Please bear with me, I thought of it earlier and decided I would man up and write it despite the not-so-nice connotations, so here goes:
I popped my macaron cherry yesterday.
The other day I wrote about this perfect Therese Rawsthorne shirt. I haven’t yet managed to actually get my hands on it, but in the mean time, I have acquired this:
As you can see. It’s a shirt. That’s me above, being all secretary-slash-business-casual. No, those shoes don’t really go with the outfit. Yes, I do have my eyes closed in that second photo. Give me a break. It’s hard being infront of a camera.
1984. The year of the rat, the year that Transformers were introduced to the world, and the year that I was born. Another thing came out that year, and it was this:
Those breakers are the shizz! I wish I had them right now. And what about those dudes in the photo? The bandanas, the breakdancing. Amazing.
Although I have never met him, I have this pre-conceived notion that Ash Stymest is kind of a really giant douchebag.
I do love him with Lizzy Jagger in this Eleven Paris lookbook though. In this, he’s kind of bad ass. (In a arrogant, punk-ass kind of way.)
See two more below, and the rest here. Oh, and also a pretty awesome behind the scenes of the shoot video here.
I’ve just seen some shots (by Karen Inderbitzen-Waller) from the new Kate Sylvester campaign over at Frockwriter. I have to repost them for the following reasons:
- I am kind of obsessed with Kate Sylvester’s upcoming Spring Summer collection. (They start rolling it out in stores from 1st of August. Keep your wallet at the ready!)
- It includes two of my favourites – Ella Verbene (seen everywhere these days) and Dempsey Stewart (all round adorable girl).
That is all. See a couple more below. For more and to read about the girls, go here.
I have gone on and on about the grey marle crew neck sweater. Some might say I’ve spoken too much about it, but friends, just bear with me for this post, okay?
I have recently acquired aforementioned crew neck sweater and, despite the fact I have already raved about it, I need to write about it again because now that I have one in my possession I can tell you first hand that it is even better than I originally thought. It’s so good. I am wearing it nearly every day.
I suggest you all go out and buy your own:
They are so versatile – grey goes with pretty much everything, you can get them almost anywhere in a whole range of prices, weights and variations, you can get them printed (Isaac has this one, and it is awesome), they’re good to throw on in winter, and if the sleeves are too long you can always roll them.
If that’s not enough to sell you on the crew-neck sweater, I don’t know what is.
The one I’m wearing in my various ‘I-think-I’m-awesome’ looking shots above, is from none-other than AS colour. It’s the ‘Brush Crew‘ version (there’s two – this is the lighter weight one), it’s mens, and it’s a small. It also comes in black. And if you want to see what it looks like on real models (ie. not me in my lounge), you can see it here, here and here.
Today is my brother’s birthday. You will already know who he is by now if you read my blog. (By ‘know’ I mean the only way you can really know someone – via the internet.) Three things you may or may not know about James:
- James and I look the same. We’re almost like twins except he is much taller and much thinner. And much cooler.
- James is a fixed-gear enthusiast and photographer extraordinaire.
- James is turning 22 today (<—click that link, it’s fricken good), which makes me officially, officially, officially super old, and officially, officially a bad sister as I haven’t gotten him a present. Yet. (James, you can cash that in whenever you like.)
Happy Birthday kid.

…that I were doing this:
in that amazing fringed dress, with a boy who has those amazing shoes.
I love that photo.
