A happy mistake.

Whenever I hear that phrase, ‘a happy mistake’ or ‘a good mistake’, I immediately think of unplanned children. But anyhow, that’s kind of irrelevant, kind of inappropriate, and beside the point.

Let’s start again with the actual point.

Last week I inadvertently took this photo:

I didn’t intend to. They were too close to me, I was trying to walk backwards and take photos at the same time. I released the shutter. It was an accident. A mistake.

Big call, but it’s probably the best mistake I ever made.

How good do these two look?!

And how amazing do those AS Colour crew-neck sweaters look on?!

Jeremy.

Look who it is! Hot on the heels of Derya and Emily, another New Zealand model has popped up on the fashion-interwebs! Jeremy Bowden (from 62) appears on The Fashionisto in a full-on, all-Louis Vuitton editorial for Men’s Uno Hong Kong.

Not bad, huh? I love the above photo.

A couple more below, see the rest here.

First Kiss.

Image/firstkisszine.tumblr.com

Do you remember your first kiss? I do. Quite vividly. It was pushed up against a brick wall behind a sports shed at the park near my parent’s house. I was fourteen and so was he. We were ‘dating’ if that’s what you want to call it.

Friend of mine.

So… I kind of want these:

All Images/mycatwalk.com.au

Whaddaya think?

They’re called the ‘Eastwood Ankle Boot’. They’re by Melbourne-based label, ‘Friend of Mine‘, and I really do think that they should be friends of mine. Friends of my feet that is.

First of all, they’re low enough to be comfortable, but they’re not flats. This is awesome for both comfort and style factors. Secondly they’ve got those buckles and zips and capped toes which makes them tough-I-ride-motorbikes-like, but the fact that the trims are gold and not too chunky mean they’re not too kick-you-in-the-teeth-gangstrrr-like. (I made those phrases up, can you tell?) The perfect friends for my feet, no?

So, as much as I’d love a pair of these to wear whilst roaming the streets, at NZ$505.00 I can’t really justify them right now (especially on my damn financial diet). Sad face. But I do have hope! I know someone out there can afford these! You – yes you! I think you should do it! You can get them here.

A couple more pics below.

After the Ksubi show.

Today is Isaac’s birthday!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, whilst trying to keep this post quasi-fashion-blog-related, here’s a quick clip of him after the Ksubi RAFW show a few weeks back:

HAAAPPPPPPPY BIIRRTTHHHHDDAAAY ISAAC!

Three cheers and the like!

PS: Gonna hit up the Red Bull tonight?

Bye bye fringe, hello braids.

After all the debates and discussions and backs and forths, I’m finally growing out my fringe. It’s gotten to the stage where it’s just passed the tip of my nose and I’m staying strong. Usually by now, it would have been cut back to it’s rightful place (just under the eyebrows). This is not to say I haven’t had lapses where I think I just need my bangs back, but I’m proud to say that I’ve perservered my way through the first stage of the grow-out! I’m doing quite well if I do say so myself.

It’s pictures like these that keep me going. These beauty shots are from the latest Vogue Nippon, and were taken by Nathaniel Goldberg. The long braids on Dree are fantastic. I would like them muchly.
And on an unrelated note, what about that glowing skin? Crazy. See a couple more below.

Derya on LϞD.

LϞD DIARY that is.

The other day we spotted Kiwi model Emily Theyers, on Zanita – an Australian blog. Today it’s Derya on LϞD. ((LϞD Diary is another Australian blog, run by Sydney-based photographer, Ryan Ochse).

Who’s next?!

I’m generally not all that patriotic, but I do have to say I’m feeling a little sense of pride right now. One more Derya pic below.

Our Legacy.

Look. Sometimes I wish I were a boy. It just seems like life would be so much easier. Much simpler. Less admin, more respect, less giving birth (well, no giving birth actually), more money, less maintenance, more power, etc etc. It just seems better. Plus I would get to wear mens clothes.

Some of the shirts by Our Legacy. All Images/www.ourlegacy.se

Our Legacy is a Swedish label that I came across last week. I’m so glad that I did. This stuff is awesome. It doesn’t come cheap, but it’s good. If I were a boy I would wear it all. In fact, I’m not a boy and I’d still wear everything. Our Legacy produces classic stuff. Shirts, plain trousers, short shorts, blazers, simple cardigans and even footwear. All in neutral and ‘go-with-everything’ colours. They make the kind of clothes you’d imagine your dad to have in his wardrobe his whole lifetime. Not too trendy or fashiony, but creative enough to keep you interested. It’s timeless stuff.

More images (including an awesome grey crew-neck sweater) from their SS10 collection, below.

Emily.

All Images/zanitazanita.blogspot.com

Oh looky here, see what I’ve found! It’s good old Emily Theyers we spotted at RAFW a couple of weeks ago! Emily’s a New Zealand girl currently working in Sydney. I don’t know too much about her, apart from she’s a fellow Kiwi and that she’s hot.

The only reason I recognise her, is because a few years back I was dressing girls backstage at New Zealand Fashion Week. She was the first girl I’d been assigned to dress, and I remember it being the first time I’d really realised how good models look in real life. Sure, I knew they’d be beautiful, but for some reason she was a different kind of beautiful to what I was expecting. And so nice as well! She had no make-up on, she was dressed all casual like, yet she looked stunning. You could not, not look at her. Anyway, I’m starting to sound kiiindda creepy so let’s get to the point. The point is, fast forward to 2010 and here she is, featured on Zanita’s blog! Hooray!

Doesn’t she look lovely? More below.

Lily Watch #16

In August of 2007 I was in my first year of real full-time work. I was dating a lifeguard and wearing clothes that would now make me cringe. On the other side of the world at the very same time, Lily Donaldson was kicking model ass. This is her from back then, in a Vogue Nippon shoot entitled ‘American the Beautiful’. So that doesn’t quite make grammatical sense, and she isn’t American, but who cares right? She looks amazing as per usual.

I blame the rain.

]

Images/hufferstore.com

Today I woke up to the sound of endless, endless rain outside. A constant clatter of water hitting the roof and the ground and my windows. I sighed. I got up, I got dressed and hoped it would all just go away. By 10.30am there was no sign of the downpour letting up, and by 11.00am I was starting to feel quite depressed. It wasn’t until 1.20pm when I returned completely drenched from a mission up the road to find food that I decided I don’t own enough warm clothes.

I went online. There was this Huffer cardigan I had been eyeing up. A black and white and charcoal marle, warm-looking, chunky-knit thing. I decided this was the day to do some serious consideration into purchasing it. I was cold, my hair was wet and I hadn’t had a proper lunch break. I was in a bad mood and this cardigan was going to (temporarily) solve all my problems. I went to the online store with credit-card at the ready, eager to make my purchase. I had already decided what I was going to wear this thing with and everything. I got to the shopping cart and stopped.

They don’t have my size left.

Sigh.

What a depressing day. I blame the weather.

H&M Fall 2010.

All Images/via refinery29.com

With the weather being like it has (freezing cold in the morning, freezing cold), it’s difficult not to think about winter woollies, multiple layers and ways to keep warm. This is where we’re tortured. Just as the Northern Hemisphere is creeping into Spring, we are falling into that cesspit that is winter. Just as all those Northerners are starting to talk about summer frocks and sandals, we’re donning three cardigans to work. The out of sync seasons officially suck for us.

But there’s a glimmer of hope! There’s a silver lining to that cloud of summer-frock-blogging, and it’s the fall 2010 lookbooks. H&M has come out with theirs. Usually I don’t really get too excited about these things, but this lookbook is gooood. It’s financial diet AND trend friendly AND it’s wintery so it’s relevant to us! Hoorah! Okay, so it won’t actually be available to us to purchase for our winter, but at least we get to look at stuff that isn’t shorts and tees and other warm-weather-related-stuff, right?

I will start by informing you that I have never shopped at H&M. I’ve been on the website and looked around, but never actually followed through with anything. In fact, I don’t even think you can get stuff shipped here. If I were a good blogger with time on my hands I’d find out for you, but today I’m not. Sorry. What I have done though, is picked out my favourites from the lookbook to show you:

Travelography.

All Images/Jonathan Steven

There’s something enticing about travel for everyone in the world, but even more so for New Zealander’s I think. It seems the OE is the ultimate escape plan for young Kiwi’s. There’s a mentality that you need to get out of this small place, get out of this town, just get out. That the grass is always greener, that everything’s bigger and better overseas, that you’re stuck at a dead end here in little old New Zealand.

I wouldn’t know. I’ve been to the States once, and that’s the furthest I’ve ventured. Ask me how many times I’ve been to Fiji (13) or Australia (so many I can’t even count), but further abroad and for months at a time? I’m at a loss. In saying this, the ‘beyond-the-south-pacific’ travel buzz has hit me in a hard way over this last year. It feels like everyone I know is moving away, planning on moving away, or has already left. One such person on the OE buzz is my good friend Jonathan Steven.

If the shoe fits.

So it turns out Adidas is coming to the rescue for people on financial diets all over New Zealand! From the 19th of May until the 11th of June, Adidas Originals is running this campaign: ‘If The Shoe Fits, Keep Them’. And it literally means that. Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday they’re giving away Adidas Originals sneakers at participating stores. It’s like a modern day Cinderella story, except way more gangster(rr). All you have to do is turn up to the store, and if your feet fit the glass slippers you can take them away! The catch – it’s first in first served, so you’ve gotta be quick.

It kicks off (kicks off! ha! so clever!) tomorrow so if you’re in Auckland at 12pm, head to Loaded on High Street. If you can’t make that, try Mooks Sylvia Park at 1pm. For other cities, all the times and information, check out the Adidas Originals’ Facebook. Go forth and reap free shoes my readers, go forth!

Financial diet.

What I would buy if I wasn't on a financial diet: This Steve Mono bag from Opening Ceremony. Image/openingceremony.us

Friends. I am on a diet. One of the cash-related variety. My friend has coined the phrase ‘financial diet’ and as self-explanatory as that is, I will explain to you my dilemma with a highly complex mathematical equation:

Where Money into bank account per fortnight = +M, and Money out of bank account per fortnight = -M:

-M > +M

Ideally the arrow would be facing the other way:

-M < +M

But alas, it is not.
