ToBe.

Last Saturday I went along to the Huffer workroom to check out and snap some pics of the latest thing in New Zealand shoes (they’re all over the inter-webs) – sneakers by Wellington-based label, ToBe. I wasn’t too sure of what to expect based on the fact that I don’t know much about sneakers, but I was pleasantly surprised. I might not be an expert on kicks, but I do know I like these.

With only three colours used and three cuts (high, mid and low) available, the sneakers are the personification of simplicity. Plain, quite minimalist, with subtle detailing and good textiles. It’s a wonderful thing. You can tell they’ve spent time focussing on getting the foundations perfect. My favourite of the lot is the high top, white pair. The fold down is awesome. There’s also a customizable tongue – check pics of the details below.

You can make those sneakers your own by punching numbers out of the tongue – as demonstrated by Dan:

ToBe’s range from $175 – $295 a pair, and are available here and here.
