This year and last year I went to Australia to go to St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Laneway tours around Aus and is like a really small big day out where everyone is over 18 and all the girls have red lipstick and fringes. And all the guys have tight pants and raybans – in other words, it’s full of hipsters. This year they had Girl Talk, Architecture in Helsinki, etc etc. It was okay. Last year they had Broken Social Scene, Feist, Dan Deacon, Okkervil River, etc etc. – it was awesome.
ANYWHO, next year line-up was announced recently and based on that, I have no plans on crossing the ditch, but I have just discovered that if I change my mind, there will be no need:
“New Zealanders are in for a treat when the very first Laneway Festival comes to town. Britomart Square is just two steps from Britomart Station (the city’s largest transportation station), just two minutes from the sea. The square itself is perfect for Laneway, with room to fit stalls, stages and audience comfortably, complete with sculpture and a park. When the festival’s over, it’s just a few steps back on to the bus (or a boat if you plan to go to Fiji for the after party)!”
The first line-up announcement as follows:
Echo & The Bunnymen, Florence and The Machine, Black Lips, The XX, Daniel Johnston, Sarah Blasko, N.AS.A, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Hockey, Dappled Cities, Mumford and Sons, Radio Clit, The Very Best, Wild Beasts, Whitely, The Middle East, Kid Sam, Dirty Three (Melbourne only) and more to be announced.
Monday 1 February Auckland Britomart Station.
